Project history

From 31 March to 24 April 2020, the community was invited to provide feedback on the concept design of the Unanderra Station Upgrade.

Following this, the Unanderra Station Upgrade project was on public display from 20 July – 3 August 2020.

Feedback on the project’s Review of Environmental Factors will build on the early consultation, and will assist the project team to further develop the designs for the upgrade.

The project received 40 submissions in response to the project’s REF. Each submission was considered by the project team and responded to in a Determination Report. (PDF, 1.33 MB)

Planning approval has been granted for the Unanderra Station upgrade and the contract for the Unanderra Station Upgrade project was awarded in March 2021.

Following the Review of Environmental Factors, we conducted detailed investigations and analysis on two footbridge options.

This included the ongoing maintenance costs once the project was complete.

It was determined that building a new footbridge rather than upgrading the existing structure would result in considerable financial savings over the next 30 years, despite the higher upfront costs.

This proposal will offer transport customers the following additional benefits:

  • less impact during construction
  • shorter construction program
  • improved urban design and customer experience with completely new infrastructure, built to current standards
  • elimination of safety risks associated with underground services next to the existing footbridge.

The new bridge proposal was open to public comment from 16 August – 27 August 2021.
