Aboriginal funeral transport

Our Aboriginal funeral transport service provides travel for Aboriginal people to attend funerals of family or community members if they are unable to get there in other ways. Organisations applying for funding to provide funeral transport must have an Australian Business Number (ABN), e.g. Aboriginal lands councils, Aboriginal medical services and non-government organisations.

Funeral transport is usually for groups of eight or more people travelling in the same vehicle to a funeral at least 25kms away.

Assistance may also be provided to help community members travel to funerals by public transport.

How to access the service

Contact Chandler Macleod Training Services (MTS) between 9am and 5pm, Monday to Friday on 1300 361 787.

Sorry Business

The Sorry Business initiative provides financial assistance to support isolated or disadvantaged Aboriginal community members to travel to funerals.

This may include money to cover:

  • 100% of the cost of return tickets on existing public transport services
  • 50% of the cost of a private bus, including volunteer drivers and donated vehicles, for groups of eight or more people travelling in the same vehicle.
  • 50% of the cost of petrol

The cost of accommodation and meals is not covered and assistance can only be provided twice per calendar year.

To find out if you are eligible contact Chandler Macleod Training Services (MTS).  MTS is available from 9am to 5pm, Monday to Friday and can be contacted on 1300 361 787.
