Information to Participants
The NSW Ministry of Transport administers the Taxi Transport Subsidy Scheme, also known as TTSS.
The scheme was introduced in 1981 to assist residents of NSW who are unable to use public transport because of a qualifying severe and permanent disability. The scheme subsidises the travel cost of TTSS participants, allowing them to travel by taxi at half fare. The maximum subsidy that can be claimed is $30.00.
Participation in the scheme is not means tested, however, applicants must meet strict eligibility criteria. Receipt of an aged, invalid, blind or any other pension will not automatically qualify an individual for participation in the Scheme. Pre-school aged children, regardless of their disability, are ineligible for the Scheme.
Incentive Payment for Wheelchair Accessible Taxi Drivers
The NSW Government is soon to trial an incentive payment for wheelchair taxi drivers.
From 1 December 2007, drivers of Wheelchair Accessible Taxis will be able to claim $8.47 for each wheelchair passenger they carry. The trial is intended to improve reliability and response times for wheelchair passengers.
This will NOT cost you any money as the incentive is not part of the TTSS fare.
Drivers are not permitted to ask you for extra money to cover the incentive payment.
A special Toll Free Telephone Number 1800 200 592 has been set up to answer any questions you may have in regard to the trial.
