Travel Concessions for Senior Secondary Students
Eligibility
- School students between 16 and 19 years of age and are entitled to a half fare concession for travel on rail, all metropolitan Sydney and outer metropolitan bus and Sydney and Newcastle Ferries services (see Recent Changes in NSW Public Transport Concessions for more information).
- School students between 15 and 19 years of age are entitled to a half fare concession to and from school on privately operated bus services in rural and regional areas and privately operated ferry services across NSW.
Note: School students who meet the eligibility criteria for the School Student Transport Scheme (SSTS) may also travel free to and from school. Further information about eligibility criteria for the SSTS.

Note: Concession entitlements are not available on special or premium services, charter, special event or tourism services.

**** The concession is available from travel to and from school on school days between 7:30 - 9:30 am and 3:00 - 5:00 pm.
Proof of eligibility
There are 3 different types of concession cards for senior secondary school students. The card that a student needs to carry in order to obtain a half fare concession will depend on the service provider, the area in which the service operates and the student's age:
- The NSW School Pupil Identification Card.
- The NSW Student Identification Card.
- The Student Omnibus Concession Fare Certificate.
This means a change for those students who use private bus services in Sydney, Newcastle, the Illawarra, the Central Coast, the Lower Hunter and the Blue Mountains and who used to carry the Student Omnibus Concession Fare Certificate or other card issued or recognised by their local bus operator.

NSW School Pupil Identification Card (Form 202)
This card is for senior secondary school students 16, 17 and 18 years of age for use on government rail and ferry services and all government and privately operated bus services in metropolitan Sydney and the outer metropolitan areas.
Where to get a card/replacement card
Cards are issued by the school the young person attends or, outside school terms, by RailCorp's Passes and Concessions office.
Replacement cards are issued by RailCorp's Passes and Concessions office. Application forms for a replacement card may be obtained from the school, RailCorp's Passes and Concessions office, or by going to the application form download page on this website.
Period of validity
The card is valid for 12 months until 31 March the following year.
Fees
There is no fee for the original card issue.
As at 1 January 2008, the fee for a replacement card is $21.00 (including GST). This is subject to change in line with IPART fare determinations.
NSW Student Identification Card (Form 204)
This card is for "mature aged" senior secondary school students 19 years of age and over and for tertiary students and is used on government rail and ferry services and all government and privately operated bus services in metropolitan Sydney and the outer metropolitan areas.

Student Omnibus Concession Fare Certificate - Private Omnibus Services (Form 302)
This card is for senior secondary school students 15 - 19 years of age for use on privately operated bus services in rural and regional areas and private ferry services across NSW.
Note: Private bus and ferry operators may issue their own proof of eligibility card or recognise other cards (including the NSW School Pupil Identification Card).
Check with the local operators for the type of card required on each of the different services.

Cards (and replacement cards) are issued by the operator or by the school in which the student is enrolled.

Period of validity
The card is generally valid for the duration of the term. Contact the operator for more information.
Fees
The operator may charge a nominal administrative fee for issue of the pass and any replacements. Information about any fees charged may be obtained from the operator.
