4WD drivers' responsibilities

Authorised 4WD tourist vehicle drivers must comply with all relevant requirements of the Passenger Transport Regulation 2007. Some of these requirements are:

4WD drivers must not:

  • Tout or solicit for passengers or for a hiring
  • Smoke in 4WD vehicle at any time
  • Eat or drink in the vehicle when hired or available for hire
  • Move the 4WD vehicle while any door is open
  • Carry any person in a 4WD vehicle whom you have reason to believe is not a tourist
  • Carry tourists on a tour wholly on sealed roads
  • Falsely advertise that they are authorised 4WD drivers

4WD drivers must:

  • Ensure their 4WD vehicle is clean and tidy
  • Be clean and tidy, and be properly attired and wear enclosed shoes
  • Behave with civility and propriety towards intending passengers, passengers, other tourist vehicle drivers and authorised officers
  • Ensure that each tour offered involves carrying passengers partly off road
  • Allow assistance animals or animals in training in the 4WD vehicle
  • Give lost property to its owner, your operator or a police station
  • Hand over driver licence and driver authority card to authorised officer when requested to do so.
