Passenger ferry operators
Ferries in NSW are operated by both State Government and privately-owned service providers.
The State Government operates the Sydney Ferries
in Sydney Harbour and ferry services in Newcastle
.
There are also a number of privately-owned ferry companies providing services throughout NSW. These services are provided under a service contract with Transport for NSW under the Passenger Transport Act 1990.

Note: High speed ferry services between Manly and Circular Quay are deregulated pursuant to clause 216A of the Passenger Transport Regulation 2007 and the Exemption Order of 19 August 2010 signed by the Director General, Transport for NSW.
As these services are deregulated, they are exempt from the requirement to hold a service contract with Transport for NSW under the Passenger Transport Act 1990.
