Rail Operations

Moving trainTrains in NSW are operated by RailCorp. RailCorp operates passenger rail services and associated bus/coach networks throughout the Sydney metropolitan, outer-urban, and regional areas of NSW.

These services are provided by RailCorp's two business groups, CityRail and CountryLink.

CityRail

In accordance with the requirements of the Passenger Transport Act, Transport for NSW and RailCorp entered into a Rail services contract PDF which commenced on 1 July 2010.  The service standards (KPIs) currently shown in the contract are being revised.

CityRail operate services in the Sydney-Newcastle-Wollongong greater metropolitan region.

CountryLink

CountryLink operate services in regional centres of NSW.

Light rail

Sydney's light rail system is owned by Metro Transport Sydney, a private company, under a 30-year lease arrangement with the NSW Government. Light rail services are operated by Veolia Transport Pty Ltd under the name Metro Light Rail.

Monorail

The Sydney monorail line is owned by Metro Transport Sydney, a private company. The monorail operates in a one-way loop between Central Sydney and Darling Harbour. Services are operated by Veolia Transport Pty Ltd under the Metro Monorail name.
