Taxi driver responsibilities
Authorised taxi drivers must comply with all relevant requirements of the Passenger Transport Regulation 2007. Some of these requirements are:
Taxi drivers must not:
- Tout or solicit for passengers or for a hiring
- Move more than 3 metres from the taxi without reasonable excuse, except when loading or unloading luggage or while in the Sydney Airport holding bay
- Smoke in the taxi at any time
- Eat or drink in the taxi when hired or available for hire
- Move the taxi while any door is open
- Display any advertisement or notice in or on a taxi without the approval of Transport for NSW.
Taxi drivers must:
- Ensure their taxi is clean and tidy
- Be clean and tidy, and wear approved network uniforms and enclosed shoes
- Behave with civility and propriety towards intending passengers, passengers, other taxi drivers and authorised officers
- Accept any hiring immediately when offered if the taxi is available for hire, except in the Sydney Airport precinct where a hiring can only be accepted in a taxi zone
- Allow assistance animals or animals in training in their taxi
- Give lost property to its owner or your taxi network
- Hand over driver licence and driver authority card to an authorised officer when requested to do so
- Tell an authorised officer about details of a hiring when requested to do so within the Sydney Airport precinct.
