Ministerial Inquiry into Sustainable Transport (Parry Report)

On 9 December 2003, the Minister for Transport Services released Professor Tom Parry's Final Report of the Ministerial Inquiry into Sustainable Transport. A copy of the Final Report is available to review - PDF file (399 kb); Word file (594 kb).

The Final Report outlines 45 recommendations, which Professor Parry believes will assist in providing a framework for delivering a better way of funding and delivering sustainable public transport in NSW.

The Final Report's recommendations can broadly be summarised under the following headings:

  • Delivering better services
  • Funding options
  • Refocusing Countrylink
  • Fair fares and efficient subsidies
  • Concessions and community transport
  • Charging for road use
  • Decision criteria for transport projects

In preparing the Final Report, Professor Parry took into account the views expressed by the 884 individuals and organisations that prepared submissions on the options presented in the Interim Report (765 kb PDF), as well as further information provided by public passenger transport operators.
