Ministerial Inquiry into the Taxi Industry

The Inquiry has undertaken a comprehensive review and analysis of the numerous submissions and suggestions received since the Minister for Transport Services announced a review of the taxi industry in order to lift levels of customer service, reliability and safety.

In completing this phase of the Inquiry process, the Inquiry team:

  • Met face to face with representatives from all areas of the taxi industry on an 'as and when required' basis.
  • Examined the taxi network radio rooms in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane during an on-going evaluation of the most effective methods of dispatching taxi bookings.
  • Liaised with government taxi regulators and industry representatives in Queensland and Victoria.
  • Met with the Independent Pricing and Regulatory Tribunal (IPART) to discuss the findings of IPARTS in-depth review of the taxi industry as well as its recent analysis and recommendations regarding costs associated with taxi operations.
  • Undertook an analysis of the financial position/performance of all Sydney, Newcastle, Central Coast and Wollongong Taxi Networks.
