NSW level crossings
This area provides information on the management of level crossings in NSW. A level crossing is the intersection of a road or pedestrian walkway and a railway line at the same grade.
There are more than 3000 level crossings in NSW. Of these more than 1400 level crossing are on public roads, with the remainder on private roads.
Individual rail and road agencies are responsible for managing safety of the various components of their level crossings.
While infrastructure improvements will continue to reduce risk at level crossings, it is also important that drivers, riders and pedestrians take care and obey the road rules each time they encounter a level crossing.
