Mutual Recognition of Drivers

Requirements applicable to all types of driver authorisation applicants:

  • Must hold a current unrestricted Australian driver's licence.
  • Must hold current equivalent authorisation in the first State.
  • Provide appropriate documentation as outlined in s19 of the Mutual Recognition Act NSW 1992.
  • Provide two recent colour photographs (65mmx65mm)

Training
  1. Drivers applying to operate in the Metropolitan transport district are deemed authorised on complying with all relevant requirements but applicants are to be advised that they cannot have their authority card until they have satisfactorily completed a geographical and regulation test (ie relying on cl. 37(2)(a) of the Passenger Transport (Taxi-cab Services) Regulation).

Administrative arrangements in accordance with the MRA:

  1. Authorisation must be granted within one month after a notice of registration is lodged.
  2. Applicants are entitled to authorisation immediately after one month from when the notice is lodged.
  3. Notification of postponement or refusal of authorisation must be made within one month after the notice is lodged.
  4. Postponement of authorisation should not be longer than 6 months, applicants are entitled to authorisation immediately thereafter.

Refusal of authorisation

Authorisation may be refused if:

  1. any required statements or information provided are materially false or misleading; or
  2. the required statements or information have not been provided.
