Historic transport reforms passed: Transport for NSW will deliver for customers
NSW Minister for Transport Gladys Berejiklian and NSW Minister for Roads and Ports Duncan Gay today welcomed the Legislative Assembly’s endorsement of the new integrated transport authority – Transport for NSW.
The Transport Legislation Amendment Bill 2011 has now passed both houses of Parliament.
“This is great news for transport customers who will reap the benefits of integrated transport planning and service delivery,” Ms Berejiklian said.
“Transport for NSW will ensure every action we take and every decision we make in transport will be centred on the customer.
“Whether you catch a train, drive a car, catch a bus, travel on a ferry, ride a bike or transport freight; Transport for NSW will be responsible for making that experience as easy and comfortable as possible.
“The passing of this legislation represents the biggest leap forward in transport planning and service delivery in 20 years.
“All planning and policy functions have been consolidated into the one authority meaning no more silos and no more organisations going their own way or doing their own thing.”
Ms Berejiklian and Mr Gay condemned Labor’s amendments which will see some staff in the new agency working alongside others doing the same job with different conditions.
“Labor’s muddle-headed amendments will result in an unnecessarily complicated workplace with seven different awards and agreements,” Mr Gay said.
“The NSW Liberals & Nationals Government proposed one new award to cover all staff in the new integrated transport authority – a sensible, fair and streamlined approach.
“Labor’s illogical changes will not stop Transport for NSW performing its vital work because we are determined to deliver a transport system people want to use,” Mr Gay said.
