70 km/h speed limit extended along eastern approach to Dubbo

A lower speed limit will be implemented on the eastern outskirts of Dubbo, in the NSW central west, to improve safety for all motorists travelling into or out of town.

The change follows a Transport for NSW speed zone review which supported the need for a reduced speed limit along a section of the Mitchell Highway.

The speed zone review was carried out after concerns were raised by several members of the public.

Transport for NSW Regional Director West, Alistair Lunn said a 70 km/h speed limit would be extended a further 890 metres along the Mitchell Highway towards Wellington, before increasing to 110 km/h.

“There are several reasons for this, including improved protection for a housing development on the northern side of the highway as you’re heading out of Dubbo towards Wellington, and a business park development on the southern side,” Mr Lunn said.

“There is also an intersection with South Buninyong Road, which has a 60 km/h speed limit entering into a 110 km/h zone, so this extended 70 km/h reduction will make it safer for vehicles entering the highway.”

The 70 km/h speed limit will come into effect from Monday 18 March, with new signs installed to alert motorists.
