Fooey fans, it's times like these you need to catch a train

Iconic American rockers, the Foo Fighters, will return to Accor Stadium in Sydney Olympic Park on Saturday 9 December to perform live for around 70,000 fans.

A further 35,000 visitors are also expected to descend on the precinct for the 50 Cent concert and EPIK indoor music festival, making it another one of the busiest weekends on the Olympic Park major event calendar this year.

Transport for NSW Coordinator General Howard Collins said public transport was the most convenient way to get to and from events. He also urged fans to leave additional travel time with extremely hot weather forecast for Saturday.

“We’re looking at more than 100,000 people heading to Sydney Olympic Park this Saturday so roads will be very busy,” Mr Collins said.

“Leave the car at home and catch public transport – we will have plenty of trains and major event buses servicing the precinct.

“Travel on all modes of public transport is included in your Fooeys ticket – just show your ticket to transport staff when boarding services.

“It is expected to reach 38 degrees at Homebush on Saturday, so we advise fans to factor in extra travel time and take their journeys slowly, drink plenty of water and seek cool, shaded places where possible while waiting for transport.”

Additional express trains will run from Central to Olympic Park from late afternoon, while return services will run frequently after the show. Extra trains will also run from Western Line stations to Olympic Park and there will be frequent trains between Lidcombe and Olympic Park until late.

Sydney Olympic Park major event buses will run every five to 20 minutes. First buses will leave between 3:35pm and 4:10pm approximately, depending on the route. After the show, buses will run frequently to get fans home, with last services leaving by midnight.

“We encourage event-goers to arrive early and enjoy the buzzing pre-show atmosphere in the precinct, there’s plenty of local venues to visit before the show,” Mr Collins said.

“If driving is your only option, it’s essential that you pre-book parking online ahead of time, car pool and allow extra travel time because traffic will be heavy and parking is highly likely to sell out.”

Traffic around the Sydney Olympic Park, Homebush precinct is likely to be heavier than usual this weekend with Christmas shopping underway and motorists should expect some delays.

Please be aware if you are travelling from the T8 Airport & South Line this weekend, essential Rail Repair Plan trackwork may affect your trip. Buses will replace trains between Sydenham and Central via the Airport, while trains will run between Macarthur or Revesby and the City via Sydenham.

Trackwork will also occur on sections of the Blue Mountains, South Coast and Southern Highlands lines. Buses will replace trains, however, passengers should allow extra travel time and check specific journey information.

If you are attending the 50 Cent concert or EPIK event, you will need to use an Opal card or contactless payment method.
