Community feedback is being called for as planning starts on the second stage of essential maintenance work needed to strengthen Tooleybuc Bridge.

Transport for NSW Regional Director South, Cassandra Ffrench, said the next stage of work is required to ensure the structure remains a safe crossing for communities and industry across the Murray River.

“Three options for the schedule of closures are now on the table for the community to consider before this essential work progresses,” Ms Ffrench said.

Ms Ffrench said Transport for NSW consulted with the community in 2022 for stage one of the project and developed a work program which best suited community and project needs.

“We listened and rescheduled the second stage of work until now in order to minimise impacts and we informed the community further work would be required to replace the existing bridge support structure,” Ms Ffrench said.

“Before we progress with this next stage, we are asking the community to provide feedback so we can work together again to choose the best option.”

The work is expected to be carried out from early August until mid-September, depending on the option that best suits the community.

Consultation is now open and will close at 11.59pm on Sunday 2 June. Once completed, Transport will confirm the timeline of work.

To provide feedback, visit us in person on Thursday 16 May 2024 at Mensforth Park between 1pm and 4pm.

The three options include;

Option 1:        Work carried out Sunday to Thursday under afternoon/evening closures (4.30pm-midnight) for six-and-a-half weeks, weather permitting. The bridge would be open at weekends (until 4.30pm on Sunday). The bridge was closed under similar conditions in 2022.

Option 2:        Day closures on weekdays (9am-3pm) for eight-and-a-half weeks, weather permitting. The bridge would be open at weekends.

Option 3:        Full closure 24/7 for four-and-a-half weeks, weather permitting. The bridge would be closed for this period.
