Motorists travelling between Boggabri and Manilla are experiencing safer and smoother journeys, with work now complete on the 19.6-kilometre upgrade of Rangari Road.
A Transport for NSW spokesperson said the NSW Government funded the upgrade, which has improved safety and provided a strong road network for the New England region.
“We prioritised delivery of this vital project to upgrade this important link between Manilla and Boggabri,” the spokesperson said.
“This is a great outcome for the community and freight operators who have been delivered a safer, sealed road.”
The spokesperson said more than 250 cars and trucks travel along this previously unsealed road every day, so completion of the major upgrade is a win for the local community.
“Transport for NSW delivered the project on behalf of Tamworth and Gunnedah shire councils, which involved widening and sealing the road from 3.8 kilometres east of the boundary of Gunnedah and Tamworth LGAs to the boundary of Gunnedah and Narrabri LGAs,” the spokesperson said.
“As an added bonus, Transport for NSW will return to Rangari Road in early 2024 to upgrade a 350 metre section in the Narrabri LGA.
“This will further improve safety for motorists by straightening the sharp bend which motorists currently have to navigate when entering Narrabri Shire.”
Contractor Maas Civil Pty Ltd delivered the project on behalf of Transport for NSW.
Work was carried out along three sections of Rangari Road and completed over 12 months.
Transport for NSW thanks motorists for their patience while this important work was carried out.
