Reduced speed limit for Berrima Road at Moss Vale

Motorists will soon experience safer journeys on Berrima Road at Moss Vale, with the speed limit set to be reduced this week.

A Transport for NSW spokesperson said, from Friday 16 February, the speed limit will drop from 70 km/h to 60 km/h for a 1.3-kilometre stretch along the road.

The existing 80 km/h speed zone will be extended for 200-metres south to meet the start of the new 60 km/h zone.

“The review of this speed zone was initiated in response to a request from Wingecarribee Shire Council to address safety concerns,” the spokesperson said.

“The review found that reducing the speed limit on Berrima Road will apply consistency to the speed zone lengths within the area and improve safety for all road users.

“Speeding is the biggest contributor to road trauma in NSW so it’s important that motorists are aware of the changed speed limit and follow the road rules.

“In NSW, speeding contributes to 40 per cent of road fatalities and 24 per cent of serious injuries from road crashes each year.

“Speeding increases both the risk of a crash happening, as well as the likelihood of death or serious injury.

“Going just 5 km/h over the speed limit in a 60 km/h zone, on average, doubles your crash risk.”
