Reduced speed limit for heavy vehicles on Link Road at Kiandra

Published

Motorists will soon experience safer journeys on Link Road at Kiandra with the speed limit for heavy vehicles set to be reduced next week.

A Transport for NSW spokesperson said the reduced speed will improve safety all year round on the key access route to the Selwyn Snow Fields and the Snowy 2.0 worksite.

“From Tuesday 2 April, the speed limit for trucks and buses will drop from 60 km/h to 40 km/h for a three-kilometre downhill stretch along Link Road, between Kings Cross Road and 1.8 kilometres west of the Snowy Mountains Highway,” the spokesperson said.

“A speed zone review was initiated in 2023 following concerns raised by police, Snowy Hydro and National Parks and Wildlife Services about pedestrians engaging in snow play along the side of the road during the snow season with a high volume of vehicles passing by.

“The reduced speed limit for heavy vehicles follows a recently implemented speed zone change for all motorists along a six-kilometre stretch of Link Road.

“In June 2023, the speed limit dropped from 80 km/h to 60 km/h reducing the risk of crashes and improving access on and off local roads.

“The reduced speed limit of 40 km/h for heavy vehicles will improve safety for all motorists on this steep stretch of road.”

Variable message boards will be onsite one week before and one week following the speed zone reduction.

Motorists are reminded to drive to the signposted speed limits at all times.
