Reduced speed limit for Rockdale Road at Young

Motorists will soon experience safer journeys on Rockdale Road at Young with the speed limit to be reduced this week.

A Transport for NSW spokesperson said the speed limit will drop from 100 km/h to 50 km/h for a 900-metre stretch along the road from Wednesday 20 March.

The review of this speed zone was initiated in response to a request from Hilltops Council due to safety concerns,” the spokesperson said.

“A speed zone review was carried out due to increased industrial development and heavy vehicle movements in the area.

“The review showed motorists already have a tendency to travel closer to 50 km/h as opposed to the default rural speed limit of 100 km/h.

“Reducing the speed limit on this road will apply consistency to the speed zone lengths within the area and improve safety for motorists.

“Speeding is the biggest contributor to road trauma in NSW so it’s important that motorists are aware of the changed speed limit and follow the road rules.

“In NSW, speeding contributes to 40 per cent of road fatalities and 24 per cent of serious injuries from road crashes each year.

“Speeding increases both the risk of a crash happening, as well as the likelihood of death or serious injury.”

Signs will be in place to advise motorists of the new speed limit.
