Reduced speed limit for Yallah Road at Yallah

Motorists will soon experience safer journeys on Yallah Road at Yallah, with the speed limit to be reduced from next week.

A Transport for NSW spokesperson said, from Wednesday 20 March, the existing 60 km/h speed limit will drop to 50 km/h along a section of Yallah Road from Haywards Bay Drive for 270 metres north.

"In response to community concerns Transport for NSW carried out a speed zone review,” the spokesperson said.

“Due to an increase in residential development in the area, the speed limit will be reduced to improve safety for motorists and improve consistency of speed zoning in the area.

“Recent crash data for Yallah Road has also helped drive this speed zone reduction.

“In the five-year period between 2018 and 2022, two crashes were recorded at the intersection between Old Princes Highway and Yallah Road, one of which resulted in a serious injury.

“The new speed zone changes will support a safer road environment at this location.

“Speeding is the biggest contributor to road trauma in NSW so it’s important that motorists are aware of the changed speed limit and follow the road rules.

“In NSW, speeding contributes to 40 per cent of road fatalities and 24 per cent of serious injuries from road crashes each year.

“In a side-impact crash with another vehicle, there’s a 90 per cent chance that a driver or passenger will survive at 50 km/h. The chance of survival reduces to 60 per cent at 60 km/h.”

Message boards will be onsite one week before and one week following the speed zone reduction, to notify motorists of the changed speed limit.
