Transport maintenance crews hard at work as flood repairs continue across the state
A Transport for NSW spokesperson said Transport maintenance crews were on the ground, working around the clock to assess damage and re-open the roads, and rail lines that will keep essential goods moving right across the network.
“The teams are doing a tremendous job and are working closely with other emergency service crews including NSW Police and SES teams to ensure hazards like fallen trees are dealt with immediately and to provide escorts for heavy vehicles to keep goods moving,” the spokesperson said.
“After the unprecedented amount of rain that fell across the State, our crews have needed to mobilise at short notice to assess road conditions and the integrity of other structures, including bridges, so we can reopen impacted parts of the network as quickly as possible.
“After the damaging weather last Wednesday we saw the Hawkesbury Nepean River rise faster than ever seen previously impacting the Richmond Bridge, with water receding in the early hours of Saturday morning.
“We were able to get crews out there straight away to assess the impacts, clear debris and carry out immediate repairs to get the bridge open in just a matter of hours after the waters receded.
“We know just how important it is to reconnect communities as quickly and safely as we can after these flood impacts and want to reassure the community our crews are on the ground doing just that.
“Our focus is prioritising safety for all road users, we’re urging motorists to continue take care when they are travelling in these impacted areas as there still may be hazards on the roads.
“There’s still lots of work to go, work to assess damage to tracks, bridges and other structures is ongoing and Transport for NSW is doing hundreds of repairs every day.
“Please continue to plan ahead and follow traffic conditions. Our traffic control and emergency crews out are still out on large portions of the road directing traffic so please be extra vigilant near all work crews.”
