More public transport services for customers

Customer at Central Station1st November 2011

Public transport customers in Sydney are benefiting from a package of extra train, bus and ferry services introduced by the NSW Government.

The changes include 63 extra rail services each week, 91 additional NightRide bus services and 165 more ferry services.

The additional services benefit commuters travelling in peak hour, as well as families, students and pensioners making off-peak journeys, and people needing late night transport.

The focus is on improving customer service, as well as creating a more efficient network.

Some of the key benefits across the rail network include:

  • 15 additional peak services on the Western Line each week;
  • more Oscars to operate on existing South Coast Line services, meaning an extra 240 seats for customers travelling between Kiama and Sydney city during the peak;
  • additional carriages on selected peak services - meaning less congestion;
  • additional off-peak services on the Western, North Shore and Illawarra lines; and
  • additional weekend services on the Blue Mountains Line.

The number of extra weekly rail services is:

  • Western Line: 20
  • Blue Mountains: 8 (on weekends)
  • Northern Line: 5
  • Eastern Suburbs and Illawarra Line: 15
  • North Shore Line: 15

The NightRide changes include 30 more services to Western Sydney, 25 additional services to South Western Sydney, 17 more for the North and North Western suburbs, 10 for the southern suburbs and nine for the eastern suburbs.

These new services help those wanting to stay in the city later, as well as customers who work night shifts - especially on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights.

They include:

  • Two new NightRide services introduced for the Carlingford Line (N61) and the Richmond branch line (N71).

More services for:

  • N10 Town Hall to Sutherland
  • N40 Town Hall to East Hills
  • N50 Town Hall to Liverpool
  • N70 Town Hall to Penrith
  • N90 Town Hall to Hornsby
  • N100 Town Hall to Bondi Junction
  • N30 Town Hall to Macarthur
  • N60 Town Hall to Fairfield

Ferry customers can take advantage of 140 services restored to the North Shore and 25 new services on the Parramatta River.

The improvements include:

  • 30 minute daytime off-peak frequencies for Mosman and Neutral Bay on weekdays;
  • A new weekday service from Rydalmere to Darling Harbour at 7.25am during the morning peak period;
  • A new service from Meadowbank to Circular Quay at 5.38pm to come down the river on weekdays to fill a two-hour gap in services;
  • A new service from Circular Quay to Meadowbank via Cabarita at 5.03pm weekdays;
  • A new service departing Circular Quay to Sydney Olympic Park at 7.05pm during weekdays to complement the existing services at 6.35pm and 7.35pm.
