As part of NSW Seniors Festival, Transport for NSW will open its interactive exhibition at the annual Seniors Expo this week, helping to spread the message that age is no barrier when it comes to using New South Wales’ ever-changing transport network.
Around 50,000 seniors are expected to come together in Darling Harbour over the next two days for what will become a one-stop destination for the latest trends and innovations in wellness, health, lifestyle, technology, education, travel and more.
A Transport for NSW spokesman said feedback from last year’s expo was that seniors really valued the opportunity to talk face to face – so we’re back and looking forward to answering all of those burning questions once again.
“Over 1.2 million Gold Senior/Pensioner Opal cards have been issued since Opal’s inception in 2012, making it more convenient and easy than ever before to travel across the transport network.
“Keeping seniors updated on the range of transport apps will play a big part of this exhibition, with experts running live demonstrations throughout the day,” the spokesman said.
The Centres for Roads & Maritime Safety will also be on-hand to highlight the importance of staying safe in and around the state’s roads and waterways.
“Whether you’re heading out on the road or the water, making sure you’re fit, healthy and prepared for the conditions is the message we’re aiming to pass on.
“On the water, wearing a lifejacket, checking the weather and making sure you let someone know where you’re going and when you’ll be back are all simple things you can do that could save your life,” the spokesman said.
“For road safety, it’s all about making sure that you continue to make safer choices when driving, riding, using a mobility scooter, catching public transport or as a pedestrian.”
The NSW Government is also committed to supporting people who have limited or no access to private transport and difficulty accessing public transport through its Community Transport programmes in regional NSW.
The expo and the Premiers Concerts take place on Tuesday 7 and Wednesday 8 March.
To make getting to the Seniors Expo and the Premiers Concerts as easy as possible, normal ferry, bus and train services will be supplemented with major event buses and light rail services from Central to Darling Harbour, as well as additional NSW TrainLink services from Newcastle and the Central Coast on both days.
