AFL Fans Urged to Plan Ahead With Rail Repair Trackwork on Olympic Park Line

Published

Passengers on the T7 Olympic Park, T1 North Shore and T9 Northern Lines are urged to plan ahead as essential Rail Repair Plan trackwork takes place this weekend.

AFL fans heading to Sydney Olympic Park for the Sydney Swans v GWS Giants match on Saturday night are advised buses replace trains between Lidcombe and Olympic Park on the T7 Olympic Park Line on Saturday 5 August and Sunday 6 August.

Passengers travelling to the Sydney Derby and other events are urged to plan their trip using transportnsw.info or the travel apps, and allow extra time for their journey.

Sydney Trains is working hard to minimise the impact of the essential work of the Rail Repair Plan as much as possible, including prioritising FIFA games.

Given our city’s phenomenal rolling program of events and entertainment, unfortunately some clashes are inevitable.

Rail Repair trackwork on the Olympic Park Line this weekend will not impact any of the special event services to support the Matildas’ FIFA World Cup fixture at Stadium Australia on Monday evening.

While trackwork is underway, a high frequency bus shuttle will operate from Lidcombe Station every three minutes as people head to and from the AFL game. We’ll also have transport staff on the ground to assist passengers.

For people attending the Sydney Disability Expo on Saturday 5 August, Sydney Olympic Park has accessible and mobility car parking spaces, and all rail replacement buses will be wheelchair accessible.

Buses also replace trains between Berowra and Hornsby on the T1 North Shore Line and between Hornsby and Strathfield on the T9 Northern Line this weekend.

Public transport shuttle services on light rail between Central Station and Moore Park for the FIFA Women’s World Cup match on Sunday will not be impacted by this trackwork. For more information visit FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023™ | transportnsw.info.

This weekend Sydney Trains will have around 950 workers across 185km of track closures, undertaking a significant amount of work including the removal of more than 100 high-priority defects.

Intercity Trains

All weekend, buses replace trains between Newcastle Interchange and Hornsby on the Central Coast & Newcastle Line.

Passengers should allow extra travel time, plan ahead using transportnsw.info or the travel apps and pay attention to station announcements. Fans considering driving to Sydney Olympic Park can pre-book parking online.

Sydney Trains thanks passengers for their patience as we work to build a more resilient and reliable network.
