Vehicles standards for taxis

In order for a vehicle to be registered and operated as a taxi-cab in NSW the vehicle must comply, in addition to other road transport laws, with the Passenger Transport Regulation 2007, in particular, clause 109 (Accommodation standard for taxi-cabs).

The minimum vehicle standards for taxis consist of the following:

  • The vehicle must have at least 4 side doors, and
  • The vehicle must have seating accommodation for the driver and at least 4 and a maximum of 11 adult passengers (other than the driver).
