Wynyard Station Upgrade

Project profile

Transport for NSW is upgrading Wynyard Station to create a new gateway to Barangaroo External website and Sydney’s financial district.

New fixtures and finishes, a wider concourse and additional ticket gates, and less clutter on the concourse and platforms will improve customer experience and make it easier for customers to move in and around the station. Passenger services will be maintained throughout construction and Wynyard Station will remain open for business during the upgrade.

The station upgrade is one of three key infrastructure projects being delivered by the NSW Government in the Wynyard Precinct, including Wynyard Walk and the Barangaroo Ferry Hub.

The new Wynyard Walk pedestrian link being constructed between Wynyard and Barangaroo South will increase the entry and exit capacity of the station to meet current and future demand.

The NSW Government is delivering major projects to reduce traffic congestion and improve public transport to, from and within the CBD. Visit the Tomorrow’s Sydney website External website for more information about other projects under construction in the CBD.

Project status

In September 2016, the new northern unpaid concourse was completed to coincide with the opening of the Wynyard Walk pedestrian tunnel. More information about the project can be found in the latest Wynyard Station Upgrade newsletter September 2016 (pdf 3.1MB).

In June 2016 Minister for Transport and Infrastructure Andrew Constance announced work will begin in the coming months on the $30 million next stage of the Wynyard Station upgrade once the current capacity improvement work is complete. More information about the announcement can be found in the media relase.
