Public art at Birrong Station

A series of artworks created by students from Birrong Boys High School with the support of local artists Zeadala (Zainab Kadhim) and STYNA (Christina Huynh) are displayed at the entrance of Birrong Station.

Students shared their stories with writer Zeadala about day-to-day life in Birrong, and the cultural heritage and places that make up the heart of the local Birrong community. They wanted to ensure the drawings incorporated symbols that represented other cultures.

One of the students that participated in the mural project stated, “It’s meaningful, because when people come from other places, they can see what Birrong is about in one image. It helps people from other countries feel at home when they can see their cultures represented.”

Other ink drawings that were created by students captured the music, gaming, sports, cars, fun and food elements that have influenced their lives in Birrong. Artist STYNA added further illustrations to create a shared experience of each student’s story.
