Hire Car Reports
On 13 September 2001, the former NSW Department of Transport introduced a number of changes to its administration of the hire car industry. These included a simplification of vehicle criteria, a reduction in the regulation of wedding car operators and changes to the fee for short-term licences in Sydney.
These changes followed a number of investigations of the administration of the hire car industry over many years. The two most recent of these were undertaken by the NSW Ombudsman and the Independent Pricing and Regulatory Tribunal (IPART).
