Petroleum Contestability: Fuel by Rail Scheme

Purpose

The NSW Government wishes to encourage the use of rail for the transport of petroleum fuel over the Blue Mountains from Sydney to any nominated destinations west of Lithgow.

To do so, the Government has provided $1.655 million for the 2008/09 financial year, to support the transport of petroleum fuel by rail, via a fuel by rail Scheme.

The financial support will be provided on a per litre basis. That is, parties moving petroleum fuel by rail will be able to claim the support at a rate of 1.2 cents per litre at 15°C for the volume moved in excess of 800 tonnes of annual threshold level.

To be entitled to participate in the Scheme, parties must register with the Ministry of Transport and comply with the notification and claims procedure set out in this Information Package as updated from time to time.
