RailCorp is a NSW Government state-owned corporation. It owns a portfolio of $28.6 billion of railway property, mostly within the Sydney metropolitan area. It provides network access to rail operators and manages the NSW Government’s contract with the Airport Link Company. The acting chief executive of RailCorp is Sydney Trains Chief Executive, Howard Collins.
From 1 January 2004 until 30 June 2013, RailCorp provided metropolitan passenger rail services via CityRail and long distance services via CountryLink. RailCorp also owned and maintained the metropolitan rail network and provided access to freight operators in the metropolitan area. From 2013 RailCorp’s operation and maintenance functions were transferred to Sydney Trains and NSW Trains, leaving RailCorp as an asset owner.
