SSTS Privacy and Personal Information Statement

The Ministry of Transport, transport operators, schools and education authorities collect information on applicants for and recipients of the SSTS for administrative, planning and reporting purposes. The Ministry will manage your personal information in accordance with state and federal privacy laws.

In compliance with its obligations under privacy legislation, the Ministry publishes the notice below on all SSTS Application Forms and here on its website.

Privacy and personal information

  1. Personal information given on this form is collected and held by and on behalf of the NSW Ministry of Transport and any entity responsible for an electronic ticketing system for the purposes of administering the School Student Transport Scheme (SSTS). The information is used to issue travel passes. This may include passes embodied in electronic devices.
  2. Personal information is collected by and/or disclosed to schools and colleges, passenger service operators, the NSW Department of Education and Training (DET), the NSW Board of Studies, any electronic ticketing entity and contractors engaged to provide services, for the administration of the SSTS and any electronic ticketing system. This includes exchange of information for verification of details provided by individuals.
  3. Information about the use of passes, including details of specific journeys, will be collected by operators and held by the Ministry of Transport and/or the electronic ticketing system entity or their contractors. This information will be used for the administration of the SSTS and for planning the future use of the SSTS and any electronic ticketing system.
  4. Personal information held in connection with the SSTS and any electronic ticketing system may be disclosed as necessary for the administration and planning of the SSTS and the electronic ticketing system, or as required by law.
  5. The student's name and date of birth may be printed on any electronic device issued, and the student's name, date of birth, home address and school or college details may be printed on a travel pass.
  6. The operator will inform the Ministry of any disciplinary action taken in relation to a student's misbehaviour. This information, including any prior record of misbehaviour, may be disclosed to other operators who carry the student.
  7. Information collected by the Ministry will be held on a database and used for checking prior incidents or misbehaviour relating to that student. Access to this information may be requested by the parent/legal guardian of the student concerned and any request for correction of the data may be made to the Ministry, at the address below.
  8. Operators may seek contact details of parents/guardians (e.g. phone number and address) from the school principal, in relation to any breach of the code of conduct, if the information held by the operator is not current.
