Taxi Drivers' Responsibilities
Authorised taxi drivers must comply with all relevant requirements of the Passenger Transport Regulation 2007. Some of these requirements are:
Taxi drivers must not:
- tout or solicit for passengers or for a hiring
- move more than 3 metres from the taxi without reasonable excuse, except when loading or unloading luggage or whilst in the Sydney Airport holding bay
- smoke in the taxi at any time
- eat or drink in the taxi when hired or available for hire
- move the taxi while any door is open
- display any advertisement or notice in or on a taxi without the approval of the Ministry of Transport
Taxi drivers must:
- ensure their taxi is clean and tidy
- be clean and tidy, and wear approved network uniforms and enclosed shoes
- behave with civility and propriety towards intending passengers, passengers, other taxi drivers and authorised officers
- accept any hiring immediately when offered if the taxi is available for hire, except in the Sydney Airport precinct where a hiring can only be accepted in a taxi zone
- allow assistance animals or animals in training in their taxi
- give lost property to its owner or your taxi network
- hand over driver licence and driver authority card to authorised officer when requested to do so
- tell an authorised officer about details of a hiring when requested to do so within the Airport precinct
