Taxi Operator Accreditation

Standards for granting taxi operator accreditation

The standards for taxi operator accreditation are the requirements that applicants must meet before taxi operator accreditation can be issued by the Ministry.

A person or corporation wishing to be accredited to operate a taxi service:

  • Must be of good repute
  • Must be fit and proper
  • Must be able to meet the appropriate requirements in respect of:
    1. Financial viability
    2. Safety of drivers, passengers and the public (be able to demonstrate knowledge and competency relating to the operation of a taxi service)
    3. Vehicle maintenance (have access to maintenance facilities for taxis)

The applicant must have also:

  • Read and understood the standards, conditions and procedures for accreditation as outlined in the operator accreditation package
  • Completed an application form and answered all questions truthfully
  • Met all the requirements specified in the Accreditation Standards

Then you will be required to:

  • Deliver or post the completed application form, all the documentation and a cheque for payment ($100, non refundable), to the Ministry of Transport
  • Wait for advice from the Ministry regarding clearance on good repute and fit and proper status before enrolment and payment of fees for attending any approved taxi operator training course
  • On satisfactorily completing the training course or being assessed as meeting the required competency standards, forward to the Ministry the Statement of Attainment issued by the training provider concerned
