How Will the Wheelchair Accessible Taxi Driver Incentive Payment Operate

Who is the incentive payment for?

The incentive payment is for drivers only. No other party can receive the payment or part of the payment. The incentive payment does not form any part of the methods for calculating a driver's bailment fee (including a fixed pay-in or commission basis).

When does the trial commence and how long will it last?

The trial commenced on 1 December, 2008 for an initial six month period.

It has now been extended for an additional six months, until 30 November 2008.

How much is the incentive payment?

$7.70 (plus GST) = $8.47.

What trips will attract an incentive?

The incentive payment will only be paid for journeys:

  • paid with a M50 Taxi Transport Subsidy Scheme (TTSS) docket; and
  • undertaken in a wheelchair accessible taxi.

Does the incentive form part of the metered fare?

No and the customer is not to be charged any additional monies to cover the incentive payment.

How do I claim the Incentive payment?

  • driver completes a wheelchair journey in a WAT;
  • the M50 TTSS docket is completed in full and the driver writes "WAT $8.47" in the Account Name box of the TTSS docket (as per the attached example);
  • driver hands completed TTSS voucher/s to operator/network at end of shift;
  • operator/network reimburses driver $8.47 for each valid wheelchair journey undertaken;
  • operator/network processes TTSS dockets through Cabcharge;
  • Cabcharge invoices Ministry of Transport on a monthly basis; and
  • Operators/Networks are reimbursed by Cabcharge.

Will the Ministry pay an Incentive Payment on an incomplete docket?

No, only fully completed M50 dockets ( those commencing with an "08" series code) will receive the Incentive Payment. The docket code is located on the bottom centre of the docket in italics.

What happens if a person in a wheelchair has a docket that is not an "08" series?

You can still claim the incentive payment for carrying the person in the wheelchair by separating these dockets and applying to your network for payment.

Can a driver of a standard taxi be paid the incentive payment?

No. The incentive payment is only available for journeys performed in a WAT by a WAT qualified driver.

How much will I be paid if I carry 2 wheelchairs at the same time?

You will be entitled to claim an incentive payment ($8.47) for each wheelchair passenger carried.
