Datasets and Methodology

The Transport Data Centre maintains a number of core data sets related to travel, demographic and employment trends in NSW. This section lists these datasets, the type of information held in each and outlines the main methodological issues which will be of interest to data users.

Household Travel Survey (HTS)
A continuous survey of the personal travel patterns of a large sample of residents of the Greater Metropolitan Area (GMA).

Journey to Work (JTW)
Small area employment information derived from the five-yearly Census of Population and Housing, conducted by the Australian Bureau of Statistics. It includes employment by industry and occupation, and method of travel to work.

Freight Movement Model (FMM)
The Freight Movement Model (FMM) produces estimates and forecasts of freight movements at a small area (travel zone) level.

Strategic Travel Model (STM)
A strategic model designed for the evaluation of transport policy and planning options. The STM produces zone level origin by destination base year trip matrices as well as forecasts by mode, purpose and time of day.
