Key transport indicators

The latest 2006 summary statistics on travel patterns for residents of Sydney are available (in PDF and Excel formats). For regional comparisons between Sydney, Newcastle and Illawarra regions, please check out TDC's latest brochure featuring 2005 figures.

Summary transport statistics by Statistical Local Area (SLA)

Travel statistics by Statistical Local Area (SLA) in the Sydney Greater Metropolitan Area are provided for use by local governments. Available information includes (a) number of trips by purpose and mode, (b) total distance travelled, (c) vehicle kilometres travelled (VKT) (d) travel per capita and (e) average number of vehicles in the household.

Population projections by SLA

Summary information including graphs and figures showing population projections to year 2031 are available for the 197 Statistical Local Areas ( SLA ) in New South Wales .

Commercial vehicle trips

The Commercial Transport Study Summary Results (369 kb PDF) contain 1996 and 2002 estimates of trips and vehicle kilometres travelled (VKT) generated by commercial vehicles in the Sydney Greater Metropolitan Area. Included are figures for day, time of day and commercial vehicle type (light commercial vehicles, rigid and articulated trucks). Total commercial movements by Statistical Local Area are also provided.

Detailed profiles by Local Government Area (LGA)

Each profile contains an extensive compilation of data on the socio-demographic characteristics of the area based on the 2001 Census. Five profiles are provided: Basic Community, Indigenous, Time Series, Expanded Community and Working Population. All are available for free for all Local Government Areas (LGA) in New South Wales from the Census Section of the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) website at www.abs.gov.au.

Regional profiles by LGA

More recent data (after 2001 Census) on selected socio-demographic data are available for each Local Government Area in New South Wales . Data includes population by broad age groups, births, deaths, unemployment, income, income support, building, motor vehicle sales and agriculture. All are free from the Regional Data section of the ABS website.

Extensive information is available at the Road Safety section of the NSW Roads and Traffic Authority (RTA) website at www.rta.nsw.gov.au . Information on rail safety can be found in the Security section of the CityRail website at www.cityrail.nsw.gov.au .
