Safe Working Near Traffic and Mobile Plant

This one day facilitator course enables councils to deliver a half-day safety awareness program that has been developed to support council and Transport for NSW supervisors, team leaders, front-line workers and contractors. The program will help build workers skills in effectively identifying and managing risks associated with working near traffic, and safe handling and movement of plant.

The scope of the program will incorporate awareness training, education, and discussion around:

  • Duties of all workers under the WHS Act 2011.
  • Risks and effective risk management principles and controls for:
    • working near traffic at temporary worksites (roads and bridges); and,
    • safe handling and the movement of plant (loading, transit and unloading of plant at temporary worksites).

At the completion of this program, facilitators will be able to assist learners with the following concepts:

  • Remember: Identify the types of risks and hazards related to the scope.
  • Understand: Recognise why effective risk management strategies are important.
  • Apply: Practice identifying risks and applying appropriate risk controls in a range of scenarios related to the scope in order to effectively manage risk.

The program uses a variety of videos and interactive activities to engage attendees and facilitate active learning.
