Bridge girders moving into place

Member for Kiama Gareth Ward MP has today announced that oversized girders will be escorted to the Berry to Bomaderry upgrade project site in the early hours of tomorrow and Wednesday morning to be used to form a new bridge at Tullian Creek, Meroo Meadow.

Mr Ward said that the six girders are 31 metres long, 2.1 metres wide and weighed approximately 50 tonnes each, requiring special overnight delivery to minimise disruption to motorists.

“The girders will leave Newcastle between midnight and 1am and arrive on site by 7am, where a crane will unload each girder and lift them into place,” Mr Ward said.

“Once the girders are installed, this will allow the bridge deck to be built.

“Motorists are advised traffic changes will be in place when the trucks carrying the girders move through the region on Tuesday 16th and Wednesday 17th April.

“NSW Police will escort the girders, and traffic will be controlled along the route.

“The deliveries will occur in the early hours of each morning to minimise impacts to road users.

“Motorists are advised to follow the directions of signs and traffic control and I thank them for their patience during this time,” Mr Ward concluded.
