Bus to Bondi for Sculpture by the Sea

Public transport is the best way to enjoy the 24th annual Sculpture by the Sea exhibition which returns this week after a two-year hiatus.

Hundreds of thousands of people are expected to visit the exhibition along the iconic Bondi to Tamarama coastal walk between this week and Monday 7 November.

Executive Director from the Transport Management Centre Craig Moran urged people to leave their car at home and catch public transport.

“With a combination of huge crowds, limited parking and heavy traffic expected during Sculpture by the Sea, the best option is taking public transport to and from the event,” Mr Moran said.

“Buses run regularly between the Sydney CBD and Bondi Junction and between Bondi Junction and Bondi Beach.

“The closest train station is Bondi Junction on the T4 Eastern Suburbs & Illawarra Line, and frequent buses run from the Bondi Junction interchange to Bondi Beach. Another option is bus route 333 which runs from the Sydney CBD to Bondi Beach.”

Mr Moran encouraged people to travel early or visit on a weekday to avoid large weekend crowds.

“Buses will be popular and we expect long queues – particularly on weekends – so, allow plenty of extra time or walk from the train station if you can,” Mr Moran said.

“There will be heavy traffic on Bondi Road, Old South Head Road and Syd Einfeld Drive approaching Bondi Beach, particularly on weekends so make sure you leave plenty of time for your journey.

“Special event clearways will also be in effect on Bondi Road on weekends. They will apply from 7am to 2pm on the eastbound side of the road, and from noon to 8pm on the citybound side of the road. Please check signs carefully as parked vehicles will be towed and a fee applies.”

Some roads along the coastal walk will close from 7:30am until 6:30pm each day during the event and some two-way streets will be made one-way.
