Changed traffic conditions on the Sydney Harbour Bridge for maintenance work

Motorists are advised of changed traffic conditions on the Sydney Harbour Bridge and Tunnel this week as maintenance is carried out overnight.

The Sydney Harbour Tunnel will be closed in both directions on Thursday 8 December from 11pm to 5am for scheduled maintenance work. No work on the Sydney Harbour Bridge will be carried out during this time.

Three lanes on the Sydney Harbour Bridge deck will be closed overnight for maintenance work from Friday.

Closures outlined below:

  • Friday 9 December – 11.30pm to 6am
  • Saturday 10 December – 11.30pm to 7am
  • Sunday 11 December – 10pm to 4.30am
  • Tuesday 13 December – 10pm to 4.30am
  • Wednesday 14 December – 11pm to 4.30am
  • Thursday 15 December – 11.30pm to 4.30am

Maintenance work will be carried out in the Domain Tunnel overnight on Monday 12 December and again on Tuesday 13 December.

The Domain Tunnel will be closed between the Cahill Expressway and Cowper Wharf Road from 11.30pm and 5am each night.

This work will also close the Sydney Harbour Tunnel southbound on Monday night and northbound on Tuesday night between 11.30pm and 5am.

Motorists can detour via the Cahill Expressway and Sydney Harbour Bridge.

As part of this maintenance work, the Eastern Distributor will also be closed overnight on Monday 12 and Tuesday 13 December. Work will be carried out between 11pm and 5am each night.

Motorists can detour via South Dowling Street, Flinders Street, College Street, Macquarie Street and Cahill Expressway.

Traffic controls and reduced speed limits will be in place for the safety of workers and road users.

Motorists are advised to drive to the conditions and follow the directions of signs and traffic controllers.

Commuters are also reminded that from 11.20pm Friday 9 December to 2am Monday 12 December, buses replace trains on most of the T8 Airport & South line between Glenfield and Central.

In addition, no train services will stop at Museum or St James stations in the CBD from 2am Saturday 10 December to 2am Monday 12 December.

Replacement bus services will operate between Central and Circular Quay via Museum and St James stations during this time. Passengers travelling to Circular Quay can also use T1 North Shore services departing Central for Town Hall and Wynyard, transferring to Light Rail services on George Street to complete their journey.
