Changed traffic conditions on the Sydney Harbour Bridge for maintenance work

Motorists are advised of changed traffic conditions on Sydney Harbour Bridge this week as maintenance is carried out.

The Cahill Expressway – lanes 7 and 8 of the Sydney Harbour Bridge – is closed southbound at High Street, Kirribilli and at Mount Street, North Sydney until 4.30am Monday 9 January for road resurfacing and waterproofing work. Lane 6 will also be closed nightly.

The left turn from lanes 7 and 8 to the Cahill Expressway over Circular Quay is also closed for the duration of these works.

The speed limit on the Sydney Harbour Bridge has also been reduced to 40km/h for the duration of works.

The Cahill Expressway northbound lanes from the Domain Tunnel to the Sydney Harbour Bridge is also closed until 4.30am Monday 9 January 2023 for the ELEVATE Sydney festival on the Circular Quay Overpass.

Lane 4 on the Sydney Harbour Bridge will close each night from 10pm to 11pm until Saturday 7 January for the safety of drivers while the ELEVATE drone show is underway.

During this time motorists can detour via the Sydney Harbour Tunnel in both directions or detour via the Sydney CBD.

Maintenance work on the bridge continues, with closures of up to four lanes on:

  • Monday 9 January – 11pm to 4.30am
  • Tuesday 10 January – 10pm to 4.30am
  • Wednesday 11 January – 10pm to 4.30am
  • Thursday 12 January – 11pm to 4.30am

The Sydney Harbour tunnel remains open during these works.

Traffic controls and reduced speed limits will be in place for the safety of workers and road users.

Motorists are advised to drive to the conditions and follow the directions of signs and traffic controllers.

Commuters are also reminded Sydney Trains is undertaking improvement works at Burwood Road Rail Bridge from 10pm Monday 26 December 2022 to 4am Monday 9 January 2023. Burwood Road will be temporarily closed to traffic, between Railway Parade and Victoria Street, for this period.

The L2 Randwick and L3 Kingsford light rail lines will only run between Central Chalmers Street and Randwick or Juniors Kingsford, due to trackwork and maintenance works.

Work will be carried out from 8.45pm to 1am, Monday 9 to Wednesday 11 January. Commuters can use alternative transport including trains or walking between Circular Quay and Central Chalmers Street.

Partial L2 and L3 light rail services will run as per normal frequency nightly between Central Chalmers Street and Randwick or Juniors Kingsford. L1 Dulwich Hill Line light rail services will continue to run as per normal schedule.

Full L2 and L3 light rail services between Circular Quay and Randwick or Juniors Kingsford will resume running daily from 5am to 8.45pm Monday 9 to Wednesday 11 January, and from 5am Thursday 12 January.
