Commuters urged to plan ahead due to bus industrial action

Published
Commuters are being asked to plan ahead on Monday 11 April as bus services will be significantly impacted by industrial action.

The Transport Workers Union and Rail, Tram and Bus Union have advised Transit Systems, CDC NSW and Transdev that their members will be participating in a 24-hour stoppage of work on Monday 11 April from 12:01 AM.

Bus services in the Inner West, Hills District, and parts of south, north, and Western Sydney will run to a reduced timetable. Bus services in parts of Newcastle, the Hunter, Central Coast and Blue Mountains will also run to a reduced timetable.

Commuters are urged to avoid bus travel wherever possible, use alternatives modes of transport where available and allow extra travel time.

Transport for NSW Chief Operations Officer Howard Collins said Transport for NSW is working with private operators to prioritise services on key routes to minimise disruption to customers on the first day of school holidays. “Most operators are planning to run a school holiday timetable or a Saturday timetable. However, cancellations are very likely, so we ask customers to consider alternative travel options, plan ahead and check the apps.

“We understand this is a frustrating situation for our customers, and we are doing what we can to reduce disruption during this time.

“With reduced bus services, regular trains, ferries, light rail and Metro services may be busier than normal, so plan ahead.”

If you are heading to the Easter Show, major event buses are planned to still operate on all nine routes, however routes in regions affected by industrial action may be cancelled at short notice or operate to a reduced timetable. If you are planning to drive, please pre-book parking in advance, as the carparks at Sydney Olympic Park fill up quickly.

To help assist with traffic flow and help people get to and from work, the T2 and T3 transit lanes on Monday will be open to all motorists.

The health and safety of our customers and our bus drivers is our top priority. Green physical distancing dots continue to guide customers on the best places to sit and stand on all modes and masks must be worn at all times.
