Drivers warned to slow down at Beni and Ballimore level crossings

Drivers have been warned to slow down at two rail level crossings in the Dubbo electorate with reduced speed limits now in effect.
A Transport for NSW spokesperson said the changes had been recommended by Transport for NSW following a period of consultation and had been supported by the NSW Level Crossing Strategy Council.
“The speed limit on the approaches and exits to the level crossings at Beni and Ballimore on the Golden Highway have been reduced from 100 km/h to 80 km/h for the safety of all road and rail users, with new signage in place to advise motorists of the changes,” the spokesperson said.
“Motorists are advised to slow down in the areas and follow the directions of signs.”
The spokesperson said the speed limit reductions were part of a NSW Government campaign to improve safety at level crossings through the Railway Level Crossing (RLX) Speed Reduction Program.
“Crash statistics show that from 2008 to 2021 there were 83 collisions between trains and cars at level crossings in NSW and, sadly, 10 people lost their lives,” the spokesperson said.
“We’re doing all we can to prevent those crashes in future.”
