Environment and safety key drivers for new overtaking lanes on Mitchell Highway

20 April 2020

Work is underway to improve journeys along the Mitchell Highway, thanks to three new overtaking lanes.

Member for the Dubbo electorate Dugald Saunders said early design work is being carried out for the $18 million project to improve safety and travel times for all road users on a 38 kilometre section of the highway between Dubbo and Narromine.

"The Central West is the third-largest contributor to the NSW economy and the Mitchell Highway is a crucial freight and tourism link for that region," Mr Saunders said.

"That is why the NSW Government is investing in improving safety and efficiency along this route.

"Once complete the project will be a win for residents, visitors and the freight industry alike, providing safer and easier journeys between Dubbo and Narromine."

From Monday, April 20, field specialists will be moving along the edge of the highway gathering environmental information for the project.

Land owners will be contacted by the project team during this time.

The next steps will be to start the concept design and complete geotechnical field testing.

Transport for NSW will notify the community as the project progresses.
