Final overpass for Berry to Bomaderry upgrade opens to traffic

The final overpass of the Princes Highway upgrade between Berry and Bomaderry has opened to traffic.

Minister for Regional Transport and Roads Paul Toole said the Strongs Road overpass was the second of two overpasses built on the final section of the 10.5 kilometre upgrade between Mullers Lane at Berry and Cambewarra Road at Bomaderry.

“The upgrade will improve journeys along the South Coast and particularly safety for motorists accessing Strongs and Jaspers Brush roads when the new four lane highway is complete,” Mr Toole.

“The Berry to Bomaderry upgrade is on track for completion in 2022 and is testament to how the NSW Government is transforming journeys along the Princes Highway for South Coast communities.”

Member for Kiama Gareth Ward said the new overpass now connects Strongs Road with Jaspers Brush Road.

“A major milestone like this reminds us how close completion of the upgrade is, as well as how much has been achieved so far,” Mr Ward said.

“A total of 165 cubic metres of concrete was poured to create the bridge deck and 140 tonnes of asphalt used on the final road surface, but that’s only a fraction of the materials and effort that is making this project a reality.”

Access to Strongs Road from the Princes Highway has temporarily closed and motorists wishing to access Strongs Road will be able to turn at Jaspers Brush Road and use the new overpass.

A temporary right turn will be installed from the Princes Highway at Jaspers Brush Road for northbound traffic.

Right turns from Jaspers Brush Road to the Princes Highway are be permitted.

Motorist wishing to travel north from Jaspers Brush Road are required to travel south on the highway and use the U-turn facility at Ison Lane.

Ongoing work in this location will take around six months to complete, weather permitting.
