First permanent traffic switch for the Albion Park Rail bypass

A section of the new East West Link being built as part of the Albion Park Rail bypass project will open to traffic next month.

Member for Kiama Gareth Ward said this is part of the $630 million funding commitment by the NSW State Government to complete the ‘missing link' for a high standard road between Sydney and Bomaderry.

“The opening of this section of newly built road is a significant milestone for the Albion Park Rail bypass as it marks the first permanent traffic switch for the project to date,” Mr Ward said.

Traffic will shift onto the new section between Croome Road and Woollybutt Drive overnight on Monday 4 November between 7pm and 7am, weather permitting.

Motorists travelling east from Croome Road and Ashburton Drive will access the new road using the new roundabout opposite the Croom Regional Sporting Complex.

Those travelling west along the existing East West Link will be diverted onto the new section of road at the Woollybutt Drive intersection.

The traffic switch will enable workers to access the existing road and continue work on the bypass, with the remainder of the new East West Link expected to be open to traffic in early 2020.

Traffic control and reduced speeds will be in place to ensure the safety of road users and workers.

Motorists are advised to drive to the conditions and to follow the directions of signs and traffic control.

Upcoming work in this area includes installing traffic lights at the entrances to both quarries and at the intersection of Woollybutt Drive and Princes Highway, and turning Woollybutt Drive and Durgadin Drive into cul-de-sacs.
