Have your say on the Barton Highway upgrade

Residents living near the Barton Highway are invited to learn more about the planned upgrades at an information session to be held at the local markets in Murrumbateman on Saturday, 8 February.

Senator for the ACT Zed Seselja said the project would boost safety for motorists driving across the southern region of NSW and was being funded by the Australian and NSW Liberal and Nationals governments.

"The Barton Highway is an essential part of the NSW and ACT transport network and this project will go a long way towards supporting freight efficiency, enhancing tourism and driving economic growth," Senator Seselja said.

Senator for NSW Jim Molan said the project would also improve freight efficiency.

"The Federal Liberal and Nationals Government has committed $150 million to the Barton Highway, partially through the Roads of Strategic Importance initiative," Senator Molan said.

"We want to improve safety for commuters travelling into Canberra from Murrumbateman and Yass. We know how important this is to the people living in this region," Senator Molan said.

State Member for Goulburn Wendy Tuckerman said the project would deliver a smoother, safer journey for motorists who travel to and from Canberra each day.

"The Barton Highway carries more than 13,000 vehicles daily and the project team’s number-one focus is keeping people safe on our roads," Mrs Tuckerman said.

"The project will include making changes to Gooda Creek Road and Vallencia Drive Intersections, as well as extending the northbound lane on Vallencia Drive.

"Bus stops at Euroka Avenue, Gooda Creek Road and Vallencia Drive will also be relocated to improve pedestrian safety."

The Barton Highway upgrade project team will be available at the markets at the Murrumbateman Recreation Ground, from 9am to 1pm on Saturday, 8 February, to answer questions about the intersection upgrade.
