Have your say on Fingal Bay Link Road options
12 November 2020
The community is invited to have its say on three possible options for a potential Fingal Bay Link Road, which would bust congestion and improve safety between Nelson Bay and Fingal Bay.
Minister for Regional Transport and Roads Paul Toole said the NSW Government had committed $188 million for a link road between Nelson Bay and Fingal Bay, and Transport for NSW is carrying out planning and investigating its feasibility.
“Access to Fingal Bay is currently through Nelson Bay and Shoal Bay, which creates congestion within Nelson Bay during peak holiday periods,” Mr Toole said.
“We are committed to improving access to and from Fingal Bay, and the community is already telling us that there are many ways we can do that, with varying impacts on property, the Tomaree National Park and indigenous heritage.
“That’s why we’re going out with a shorter connection to Austral Street and a road upgrade package for the existing network, alongside the original proposed route through Tomaree National Park. We want to get the right option for the community.”
Parliamentary Secretary for the Hunter Catherine Cusack said three options were being considered as part of the early planning phase.
“We are encouraging the community to have their say so we can understand local concerns and preferences for a link road,” Ms Cusack said.
“With forecast population growth and increased tourist activity, it’s important that we push ahead with a solution to improve traffic flow and safety for all road users, so we continue to make Nelson Bay and the Tomaree Peninsula an even better place to live, work and visit.”
