New Tech Planning Makes Dubbo Bus Trips Easier

Dubbo has become a regional leader with new technology now up and running to help customers track the arrival of their bus and get an indication of available seating in real time.

Minister for Regional Transport and Roads Paul Toole said the technology is now on 87 buses in the Dubbo electorate as part of the first phase of the Transport Connected Bus Program.

“Using or a third-party transport app, customers are now able to track the location of a bus, its estimated arrival at a stop, and how full the bus is, which means less time waiting at the stop and more time at your destination,” Mr Toole said.

“The launch of this technology builds upon our vision to help make public transport a first choice for people living in the regions.”

Member for Dubbo Dugald Saunders said about 100 service routes in Dubbo are being tracked through the initiative, including the popular 570, 571 and 573 routes.

“With the new technology being rolled out across other regional centres, Dubbo is already up and running as one of three regional centres state wide leading the charge on real-time tracking,” Mr Saunders said.

“For customers, this will mean better trip planning as they will have access to data showing the bus location on its route and an indication of the capacity.

“The NSW Government is committed to delivering quality public transport and transport infrastructure and technology to regional NSW.”

The three local operators using the new technology are Buslines, Ogden’s Coaches and Langley’s Coaches.

Dubbo Buslines Manager Rebecca Hamblin said the company was pleased to be involved with the innovative program.

“Parents can plan their child’s journey by contacting Dubbo Buslines and then track their child’s bus using real time tracking of our fleet, giving parents, students and drivers comfort that management knows where the vehicle is at any time,” Ms Hamblin said.

There are about 50,000 customer bus trips per year in the Dubbo area.

Customers travelling in regional NSW will be able to learn more about viewing reliable timetable information and real-time updates via the Transport for NSW Trip Planner tool at and other travel apps.
